Panel basics

A tour of the PlayDubious control panel: what each tab does and how to connect over SFTP.

Open panel.playdubious.com and sign in with your email address and password. Every account uses two-step verification, so you also enter the code from your authenticator app. Choose your server to open it. The tabs below belong to that server.

What each tab does

  • Console: the live server log and a box for typing commands. The power buttons for starting, restarting and stopping the server are here too.
  • Files: a file manager. Upload files, edit text files, and archive or unarchive folders.
  • Backups: create, download, restore and lock backups. Your plan sets the number of slots.
  • Schedules: the nightly restart lives here. You can add your own tasks on a cron-style schedule.
  • Startup: your game's settings, such as the server name, version and JAR file for Minecraft, or the serverDZ.cfg settings for DayZ.
  • Users: invite friends as sub-users with limited permissions.
  • Network: your allocations, meaning the IP address and ports your server uses.
  • Activity: an audit log of what has happened on the server.
  • Settings: your SFTP details.

Connect with SFTP

SFTP lets you move files with a desktop program instead of the browser. Any SFTP client works.

  1. Open the Settings tab and find the SFTP details.
  2. Copy the host and the port.
  3. Copy the username. It looks like email.identifier, and the Settings tab shows the exact one.
  4. Use your panel password as the SFTP password.

Common tasks

  1. To change a game setting: open Startup, edit the value, then restart from Console.
  2. To upload a file: open Files, go to the folder you want and upload it. For many files or large ones, use SFTP.
  3. To change a text file: open it in the Files tab's editor, change it and save.
  4. To unpack a zip file you uploaded: use unarchive in the file manager.
  5. To run a game command: type it in the command box on the Console tab.

Settings, restarts and times

Changes on the Startup tab take effect the next time the server starts, so restart from the Console tab when you are ready.

Times on the Schedules tab are in UTC. Convert from your local time before you add a task of your own.

Every plan includes the nightly restart and nightly backups, and your plan sets how many backup slots you have. The Backups guide covers restores.
