BeamMP server guide

Add your own AuthKey, set the map and limits, and start a BeamMP server for BeamNG.drive.

Get your AuthKey

BeamMP needs an AuthKey, and you bring your own. Get one from the BeamMP keymaster, and treat it like a password: do not post it or share it. Have it ready when your welcome email arrives. The email, with your connect address and panel invite, usually arrives within minutes.

Add the key and start the server

  1. Sign in to the panel and open your server.
  2. Open the Startup tab.
  3. Paste your key into the AuthKey setting.
  4. Open the Console tab and start the server.
  5. When the log shows the server is running, send the address from your welcome email to your friends.

Server settings

The Startup tab also holds the server name, description, map, maximum players, maximum cars, a Private setting for keeping the server out of the public list, and chat logging. Changes apply the next time the server starts. Debug logging is there too. Turn it on when you are troubleshooting and leave it off otherwise, because it makes the console noisy.

Mods and files

Upload files with the Files tab or SFTP. BeamMP's own documentation explains where each kind of mod or plugin goes. For big files, SFTP is usually easier than the browser. Make a backup before you change a working setup.

If the server will not start

  • Open the Console tab and read the last lines of the log.
  • Open the Startup tab and paste your AuthKey again, with no spaces before or after it.
  • Check our status page.
  • Email [email protected] with your server name and what the console says.

Plan size, restarts and backups

The BeamMP plan is built for small friend servers. BeamMP lists 8–16 recommended players. The nightly restart is on the Schedules tab, and times there are in UTC. BeamMP has no in-game warning before the restart, so players are disconnected when it runs. The plan includes 2 backup slots; see Backups and restores for how to create, download and restore them. If friends help run the server, invite them as sub-users on the Users tab.
