Backups and restores

How backup slots work, and how to create, download, restore and lock backups from the panel.

How backups work

Every plan includes nightly backups. Plans come with 2 to 5 backup slots, depending on the plan. The +5 backup slots add-on ($3/mo) adds five more. You can also make a backup yourself whenever you like from the Backups tab.

Create and download a backup

  1. Open the Backups tab and create a new backup.
  2. Wait for it to finish. It then appears in the list.
  3. Use the download option on a backup to keep a copy on your own computer.

If every slot is in use, delete a backup you no longer need to make room for a new one.

Restore a backup

  1. If you have a free slot, create a fresh backup first, so you can come back to the current state.
  2. Open the Backups tab and choose restore on the backup you want.
  3. Confirm, then check the Console tab when it finishes.

Restoring puts the files from the backup back on your server, so anything you changed after that backup was taken can be lost.

Lock the ones you want to keep

Lock a backup to protect it from being deleted by accident. Lock the one you would hate to lose, such as the backup taken before a wipe or a big mod update.

When to make a backup

  • Before you add, remove or update mods, plugins or a modpack.
  • Before you change the server version or the JAR file.
  • Before a wipe or any other big change to your world.
  • Before you cancel, so you can download a copy.

Quick answers

How many backups can I keep?

As many as your plan has slots. Plans come with 2 to 5 backup slots, depending on the plan. The +5 backup slots add-on adds five more slots.

How do I get more backup slots?

Email [email protected] with your server name and ask for the +5 backup slots add-on, which costs $3/mo.

What happens to my files if I cancel?

Your server's files are kept for at least 14 days after a cancellation and then deleted, so download anything you want to keep first.
